A Wartime Neighborhood That Grew Up Under Its Trees

Tree Service in Cammack Village usually means fitting full-size tree work onto a small lot. The city covers only about 0.28 square miles and is completely surrounded by Little Rock. Its core is the Cammack Woods subdivision, built during World War II as military family housing for Camp Joseph T. Robinson. Those houses were laid out in rows at 870 square feet each, and while many have been enlarged since, the lots stayed compact. Eighty years later, the trees planted or left around them have grown far larger than the houses.

Compact lots change the plan

On a narrow lot with a neighbor's house a few yards away, there is little room to fell anything. Our crews take trees down in sections, lowering pieces on rigging, and plan where the chipper and truck will sit before the first cut. Additions built onto the original houses often sit right under old limbs, so roof clearance pruning is one of the most common requests here.

Two very different settings

Not all of Cammack Village looks like Cammack Woods. The Palisades Estates and Pinnacle Point subdivisions hold larger homes overlooking the Arkansas River, and the city sits at about 587 feet, well above the river. Trees on slopes and bluff edges carry different risks than those on flat lots: they lean toward the light over the drop, and their roots work in thinner soil. On those properties we look closely at lean, root plate and soil cracking before deciding whether a tree should be reduced or removed.

The 2023 tornado came close

The March 31, 2023 tornado moved through the Kingwood neighborhood near Cammack Village on its way across Little Rock. Storms like that leave behind trees with cracked unions and hanging broken limbs (often called hangers) that do not always show from the ground. If your trees took wind that day or in a later storm, a closer look from a bucket or a climber is worth it before the next spring line comes through.

Services and utilities

Cammack Village relies on Little Rock for water, sewer, power and fire protection. For tree work, the power side matters most. Entergy Arkansas maintains the primary lines but leaves the service drop to your house to the homeowner, and it will disconnect that line at no charge so a tree crew can work. We set that up when a job needs it.

  • Roof and gutter clearance on the original Cammack Woods homes
  • Sectional removal where there is no room to fell
  • Slope and bluff-edge tree assessments on river-view lots
  • Stump grinding, including small machines that fit through yard gates

Cammack Village Questions

My yard is tiny. Can a big tree still come down safely?

Yes. Sectional removal with rigging is designed for exactly that. The climber removes the tree from the top down in pieces small enough to lower under control, so nothing needs a wide landing area.

Can a stump grinder get into my backyard?

Usually. Smaller grinders fit through many standard yard gates. We check the gate width during the estimate so there are no surprises on the day.

Is a tree on the bluff side more dangerous?

It can be. Slope trees often lean over the drop and root in shallower soil. We look for cracking soil, root lift and lean changes before recommending anything.

The previous owner topped my tree years ago. What now?

Topped trees regrow as clusters of fast sprouts attached only at the surface of the old cut, and those sprouts get heavy. Over two or three visits we can select the strongest sprout on each stub, remove the rest and slowly rebuild a safer crown, or recommend removal if decay has set into the stubs.
